Maybe the M4 Tank was pretty good (or good enough)

Interesting analysis on how the M4 Sherman became the thing it was.

The Chieftain , as Moran is known, really goes to bat for the Sherman. Before seeing his various videos I would have parroted the standard “It was ready to burst in to flames at any time” line but his arguments are pretty solid.

The sherman gets a bad rap for all the wrong reasons. It did its job great. The idea of being “under gunned” completely falls apart when you realize how few tigers and king tigers were actually fielded, vs the number of shermans. We clobbered them.

he really does a great job of breaking down the problem. In one of his Q&As he has a bit how the Tiger 1 had to stop every 10-12 km to check track tension, suspens ion and and grease, due to stress the weight put on the system. imagine you have a column, that has to grind to a halt, be a sitting target, so crews can hop out for 5-10min check, then get everyone back in and start rolling. its why it took the heavy units forever to get anywhere without rail lines, and why any minor disruption to the rail network caused havok.
